Can the XML element tags have new lines before and after the data they contain?
Most XML programs do not consider whitespace BETWEEN tags significant, while whitespace WITHIN tags is considered significant. In general, getting rid of extra whitespace WITHIN your values is good practice. For ingest, NSDL rids extra whitespace in your values for our version of your metadata; we leave the values exactly “as is” for your native metadata as served out by us.
