Can the world support the current world population without oil?
The speakers in the movie didn’t think so, and I feel the same. As we build our cities up we, the common person, fail to realize the amount of additional energy needed to keep the apartment building running. 24 hour running lights, elevators, central heating/cooling, pumping water throughout the building. Therefore, if we build up because we can’t build out, where do all the displaced people go when there is not enough energy to power large structures. Suburbia? Once in suburbia, how to they travel the 20 miles to and from work each day? I feel that this movie demonstrates that the global community as we know it today will re-shrink to smaller continental community configurations because the cost to trade, travel and communicate across the globe will make the cost inhabitant. Is Saudi Arabia on the brink of falling apart? One amazing statistic that I learned from the movie is that 10-15 years ago, the per capita income of a Saudi citizen was about $28,000 and today it’s $6,000. That is
