Can the Waste Tire Playground Cover Grant Program be used for a track at a public elementary school?
A. No, a track is not eligible for funding for this grant program. The Waste Tire Playground Cover Grant (Playground Cover Grant) is specifically for surfacing at public playground sites. Applicants may submit an application for projects that are open to the public and refurbish surfacing at existing playgrounds or provide surfacing for new playgrounds. Eligible projects for the Playground Cover Grant include surfacing material that is placed underneath and around playground equipment. “Playground” means an improved outdoor area designed, equipped and set aside for children’s play that is not intended for use as an athletic playing field or athletic court. A Notice to Proceed will be tentatively released at the end of August 2003 for the Waste Tire Track and Other Recreational Surfacing Grant Program.
