The VirtualCenter Management Server maintains the entire state of its managed environment in a database. If you use SQL Server or Oracle as your database, you may use third party clustering software to make the database highly available. The availability of the VirtualCenter Management Server itself does not affect the uptime of any managed virtual machines or the status of any pending VMotion operations. If the primary instance of the VirtualCenter Management Server becomes unavailable, pointing a new instance at the database immediately restores VirtualCenter services.
