Can the universe create itself out of nothing under physical laws OR is a creator god necessary?
It is unlikely we will ever know how the universe was “created”. The scientists can produce good explanations of how the Universe has developed and their mathematical equations can suggest a universe being created out of nothing, but there is little evidence and no proof. However there is even less evidence (ie NONE) that God exists or could have created the universe. “God” was invented to explain the unexplainable, but unfortunately it is a theory totally without evidence and is even less likely to be true than the unlikely theories put forward by the scientists.
Well there’s always the “who created the creator” question to this question… Some theories argue that things can arise from “nothing”, like the so called “brane theory” I saw a programme about on Discovery yesterday. Even the two guys who were part of the group that thought up the theory had a hard time explaining what it was, but essentially they theorize (I’m paraphrasing) that our universe is only one of many or infinite universes, and that our universe is a “brane” (derived from “membrane”) and it’s only separate to other “branes”/universes by a very thin layer of “consisting of a time-space dimension”. As time goes by (1 trillion years they say) and matter in the universe is “diluted”, the branes move closer and closer together until they finally hit one another and exchange energy, causing a “big bang”, once again moving the branes apart. This theory requires there to be 10 or 11 dimensions, to work. I guess the thought behind it is that not everything is as it seems, so we sho
