Statistically approximately 99% of contract negotiations are settled without a strike. WHY DO I PAY UNION DUES? Like members of most organizations, Union members pay dues. The Union has expenses that are necessary for it to provide member services. These expenses include rent, salaries, telephones, electricity, postage, attorney fees, arbitration and organizing costs. Dues are the Union’s only source of income. Without dues, the Union would be unable to service and represent members. However, the added pay and benefits members receive through belonging to the Union are much greater than the cost of Union dues.
