Can the unemployed have a online programming course paid for them at home?

No, I’m afraid the Jobcentre aren’t going to pay for it. Their ‘training courses’ are back-to-work jobseeking skills type courses which are provided by private contractors in areas of higher unemployment (employment zones). If you live in Scotland you might get £200 towards it under the ILA scheme but only if it was provided by an approved college or training company. Your best bet is to see if any type of bursery is available on the course, I think the Open University does reduced fees if you are unemployed, but if it’s a commercial company offering the course there probably isn’t.

Your best bet might be an Open University course, with these you can study at home but you are given a tutor who you can contact and set dates to complete work by. With these you may also be able to apply for grants and financial support from your local LEA and if you are on a low income you could end up paying very little (depending on the course). It’s good to check it out though so get in contact with them and also the best idea is to contact your LEA, just phone up your local council and ask them to put you through, you can book an appointment with someone who can give you financial advice.
