At the moment, typical Marathi ‘culture’ of goondagiri has just been exhibited in the great metropolitan city of Mumbai. When it was Bombay, it was Indian culture. I digress. You are quite right. Villages are light years removed from mega cities like Mumbai. You can see this difference less than 100 km away in the villages of say Bhiwandi taluka. The first noticeable difference is that different castes live in clearly demarcated sections, notably the so called lowest castes live a small space away from the rest of the village in noticeably humbler dwellings. I like to go out of the city as often as I can and I have noticed this disturbing aspect of rural society everywhere. I cannot help but imagine how much worse it must be in certain states which are known for their demeaning treatment of lower castes. On the other hand rural life is relatively simple albeit rigid; in cities we get moulded by our ever changing fast paced environment. I would say that there is no such thing as “typica
