Can the transport and logistics community lead the way on sustainable energy?
The answer is a definate yes. There are so many ways that these communities can impact sustainable energy, as well as overall energy policy while reducing costs and improving (greening) their bottom line. Warehousing, distribution and retail, along with manufacturing have already taken a number of steps, such as: Designing new facilities that use solar power for light, heating/refrigeration; Redesigning existing facilities for more efficient energy useage; redesigning and implementing new S&R systems that reduce the amount of time human’s have to be exposed to freezing temps, using ASR (which also improves inventory loss, and turns; The transportation industry is implementing new technology for traffic management (TMS); New engines for commercial motor vehicles; Airlines are rethinging (again) the hub and spoke system; Replacing older jets with newer more fuel efficient engines; Increasing the use of regional and smaller jets on many routes; Railroads have improved the engines and trac
