Can the Speedpass radio frequency be picked up by another receiver?
Like cell phones, this device works with radio frequencies. If a receiver is programmed on the same channel it can pick up the frequency. The only thing, however, that will be picked up is the Speedpass Identification number the number engraved on your Speedpass), which on its own cannot be used due to an added security feature. This security feature, known as Digital Signature Transponder (DST) has a two-point authentication process — once at the pump and once at the Imperial Oil host computer – before fueling can begin. Your credit card number or RBC Royal Bank Client Card number is not stored on the Speedpass, so it can’t be picked up by another receiver.
