Can the SAE 50 transmission lubricant be used in the axles?

The Emgard SAE 50 can be used in the front steer axles and in non-powered trailer axles. These are lightly loaded applications and the Emgard SAE 50 product performs well under extended drain usage. The Emgard SAE 50 transmission lube is not recommended and should not be used for drive axle (differential) applications. This product does not supply sufficient extreme pressure (EP) protection for either planetary or hypoid gear systems found in drive axles. Use of the transmission lubricant in the drive axles would cause excessive wear and premature failure. If a drive axle is accidentally filled with the SAE 50 transmission lube, it should be fully drained and refilled with the appropriate 75W-90 or 80W-140 EP gear lubricant.
