Can the PeopleSoft product be customized to meet the needs of different schools and departments?
Customizations are expensive and will be made only if absolutely necessary, when there is academic or administrative merit. Customizations must be approved by the Steering Committees. However, by implementing our own IU front-end, we can add functionality and business rules that are not contained within PeopleSoft. Upgrades and patches to PeopleSoft are required in order for us to operate in a supported mode and to received required regulation changes from external agencies, such as financial aid and tax regulation changes. Given that fact, IU needs to limit its customizations and dependencies. Since change is inevitable, we must minimize its impact on our resources. This will free up scarce resources for developing and creating new services rather than simply maintaining the existing functionality.
