The DS plays DS games and GBA games, but not games from the prior systems. Also, the DS only plays GBA games in modes not requiring the link cable. Nintendo advertises this as “in single player mode”, but if you have a game that is designed for players to pass around the same gameboy, those GBA games will function in multiplayer mode.
