Can the Mavericks win a title with Dirk Nowitzki?
This flies in the face of popular opinion right now, but the answer is yes. That doesn’t mean Nowitzki and the Mavericks can win a title the way the team is currently constructed. So, Dr. Naismith, what do you suggest? The Mavericks need to find – or develop – a point guard who can get the ball to Nowitzki when and where he needs it on a consistent basis. Can you imagine how good the Mavericks forward would be if he got to play with someone like Steve Nash? Oh, that’s right. He did play with Nash until the Mavericks determined the point guard wasn’t a valuable piece of the club’s future. How did that turn out? Nowitzki would also benefit if the Mavericks could find someone else to share the burden of scoring in the low post. Erick Dampier is an option against bigger teams, but he disappears from the lineup when opponents go small. The Mavericks need someone in that role when they play Phoenix, Golden State and Denver.
