Can the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) make changes to school sixth forms?

0

Yes. The LSC has the power to propose the closure of inadequate sixth forms where there have been two successive adverse reports from Ofsted and the school has failed to turn its performance around. These proposals will be decided by the Local Authority or schools adjudicator. Under new powers from 1 April 2003 the LSC can also publish proposals to reorganise sixth form provision either following an area inspection or in order to increase participation, achievement or a range of learning opportunities. Proposals published under these arrangements are decided by the Secretary of State.
