Can the kindergarten students of Del Mar Union School District receive milk during recess?
The Del Mar Union School District does not offer milk to kindergarten students at recess. Serving milk to kindergarten students during recess would require a classified employee who will acquire and maintain a food handler card. This is a requirement of the County of San Diego Health Department and the California Education Code. This is an expense that was not budgeted to the Cafeteria Fund during the budget process. There is also the challenge of finding classified employees who would be willing to work during the 30 minute recess time. I polled our neighboring districts and was unable to find one neighboring district that offers milk to kindergarten students. Their reasons were the same as I have listed here.
