Can the IRS hold my refund if I am late on paying my property tax?
Property taxes are a county or local tax & the IRS has nothing to say about them. It is one of the few things that the IRS can say nothing. The IRS is deals with the federal income tax. In my state, ND, you have a 5 yr grace period on property taxes. In other words, you can let your property tax remain unpaid for 4 years, they start proceedings against you the 5th year. So long as you are no more than 4 years behind, you are safe. However, this is ND & the are trying to tighten it up. I have no idea what your state law says about unpaid property taxes; so check it out before not paying them on time.
