Can the HP G60-214EM laptop take a PCMCIA 2 Port Firewire Card?

The HP G60-214EM doesn’t have a PCMCIA slot so unfortunately you can’t use this video camera to transfer video digitally to your laptop. I have had a look for a USB-firewire converter but I haven’t been able to find any. Your friend is out of luck I’m afraid. The alternative is to borrow a laptop/PC with a firewire port, transfer the video on to a DVD or 4GB memory stick and then edit on his laptop. You should be able to get analogue transfer by using the component output on the canon and using a USB-video capture device on the laptop but the quality will be nowhere near as good.
