A.10. In the event that the physician performing the imaging service believes that an additional test is necessary, he/she may call for precertification. In fact, he/she becomes the ordering physician. If this occurs, he/she should also notify the patients physician of the additional test, as a matter of courtesy and appropriate medical procedure. If the test is being conducted after NIA business hours, Mon – Fri, 7:00 a.m. 7 p.m. CST, the physician should proceed with the additional test and notify NIA and the original ordering physician on the next business day or within 48 hours.
