Can the hitch model also be mounted behind the bumper?

0

The Guardian Alert hitch model and behind the bumper models use the same microwave technology. Therefore, the hitch model will also work if mounted in a concealed location behind the bumper cover. The primary difference between the two models is the mounting method. Since the hitch model is held to the receiver hitch adapter with four small screws, it is possible to mount it to a simple metal bracket beneath the crash bar on many vehicles. The bracket would have to be fabricated to fit your vehicle. In no case should any new holes be drilled into the crash bar. Since the top surface of the hitch model is 1.5 inches by 3 inches, it may also be possible to mount the device to the bottom of the crash bar using 3M Dual Lock. If the sensor is mounted to the impact foam with 3M Dual Lock, the foam should first be sealed with polyurethane varnish. See photos on this page for examples of the hitch model mounted behind the bumper cover.
