Can the herbicide 2,4-D be used safely in wheat?

0

A. The herbicide 2,4-D is one of the most widely used herbicides in wheat in Alabama for broadleaf weed control. The time of application relative to the stage of the wheat is very important. Damage can be expected when this herbicide is sprayed at the wrong time. When sprayed to late the tillers will lay flat down instead of standing straight up, but will recover after about 10 days. For additional information please see publication ANR-500A, 2002 Alabama Pest Management Handbook, chapter “Small Grain Insect, Disease, And Weed Control Recommendations” under the heading ‘Weed Control’.
