Can the gene therapy approach be used for AMN?
Many of the drugs used in the current gene therapy procedure (busulfan/cytoxan) aggravate AMN, so the approach is being improved to address AMN at some stage. The benefit also needs to be validated. However, it should be noted that the current view is that this approach, if beneficial, would only prove to be helpful if used very early in the onset of the disease. More research is currently going on relative to AMN.
