Yes. However departments need to be clear that they are giving value for money – for instance using a senior professor to do a large amount of relatively routine training would not be appropriate. Equally the work must be new and map on to sections C-G of the joint skills statement. The Head of Department should be informed if this route is to be taken and ensure that appropriate mechanisms are in place to monitor the time commitment and output of such an investment.
