Can the faulty original V8 fuel pump be replaced with a cheaper aftermarket part?

Yes. The original V8 fuel pump made by AISAN and available from Lexus for about A$1,100 or directly from Japan for about A$500 can be readily replaced with a new DENSO fuel pump available in Sydney for about A$250. The replacement DENSO pump has the same pickup with filter and is marginally shorter but still fits nicely in the pump holding bracket inside the fuel tank. Access is easy from behind the rear passenger seat-back. A minor drawback is that the DENSO pump electrical connector socket does not accept the original fuel pump wiring plug and improvisation is needed to connect the new pump to the original wiring harness.
