Can the FalconXT get it’s IP address via a DHCP router or do I have to give it a fixed IP address?

If you have a router that acts as a DHCP service just connect the FalconXT to the network and it will automatically get an IP address. If you do not have a DHCP router you must connect the FalconXT to a computer via USB or Serial and assign it an IP address directly.
