Can the DVR be programmed for motion detection?
The DVR supports two types of motion detection. The first type is using the built in software detection. This is based upon pixel changes and may not be suited for certain environments. You can enable motion detection by pressing the Setup button and scrolling down to the Alarm/Motion line and changing the ALARM OPERATION to ON, then move down to MOTION SETTING, enable motion detection on a designated camera or all of them. The motion sensitivity can be adjusted from 1(most sensitive) to 5 (least sensitive). Once motion detection is enabled, the system will record all four cameras after it senses motion from the enabled camera(s). The second type requires the use of an external device that is connected to the RS-232 port on the back of the DVR.
The system supports motion detection separately for each channel. You need to define the area by choosing which segments of the grid to include. This can be done remotely using a mouse faster than by using the buttons on the front of the unit. You can sample the current motion to determine the sensitivity threshold and thus prevent many false alarms.
