Yes, it can. However, if the detecting surface is rounded, detection efficiency will be deteriorated. The sensors’ detecting element is a plane. The sensors’ output is proportional to the square of the distance between the detecting element and the target medium. If the detecting surface is rounded, the gap between the detecting surface and the element is increased, and the output will be decreased by this gap. Sensors with a rounded detecting surface have not been available from Murata, but if you need this type, consult Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
