Can the Democratic Party be saved?
Looking at how Senate Democrats operate, one has to wonder if they even consider themselves members of a political party. They have no party discipline, no common messaging/rhetoric and no leadership. Harry Reid could be replaced with a potted plant and nobody would know the difference. How lunatic memes can be successfully deployed by the Republicans is a tribute to their party discipline — which allows them to achieve political influence disproportionate to their numbers. Democrats need to learn how to be a political party in more than name only — too many Democratic Senators seem to prefer “freelancing” rather than submitting to real leadership to accomplish stated Democratic policy goals. Their pathetic record of ineffectiveness proves that, for too many Democratic Senators, power (and the perqs) is the end in itself — not the means to an end.
