Can the decocker on an m9 pistol (Beretta 92FS) cause the weapon to discharge?
It is impossible. If you look at the rear firing pin you can see that as you turn the decocking lever, it rotates the rear of the firing pin mechanism off of the striking point of the hammer, thus why it is not only the decocking lever but the primary safety of the M9. Edit: ok the guys saying that it is possible have obviously never held an M9 or are unfamiliar with it’s design for the decocking lever. The rear of the Firing pin mechanism is rotated completely AWAY from the hammer. It is in the fully VERTICAL position when the hammer falls. It needs to be in the horizontal position to fire. So even if it has been coated in grease or dirt it WILL NEVER FIRE. However, that being said it is just common sense to use safety practices like the other posters are saying.
