Can the Auroa Borealis occur on Mars?
Not very easily. Mars has no ‘bar magnet’ magnetic field that could work the way ours does to allow polar aurora to occur .Instead, Mars has fossil, relic crustal fields that mottle the surface. These fields are strong enough to change the way mars interacts with the solar wind, but they don’t appear to be strong enough to allow solar wind particles to get trapped and then cause aurora. Dr.
