Can the AMD Phenom II 940 use a AM3 motherboard but run on DDR2 RAM?

It depends on the motherboard, some of the AM3 mobo’s are set to run with DDR2 some with DDR3 and some with either. The 940 however is an AM2+ CPU and does NOT support DDR3 RAM even though it is a Phenom II. It will run DDR2 ONLY and yes you can run 800 vs. 1066…
