can that same product be used on zucchini plants because the plants seem to die at the base?
a. Absolutely, BT would be effective on the very young bagworms after they have hatched out. Remember, that’s going to be somewhere as we approach early June, they’ll immediately start to feed. If that BT application is made so that the foliage has a layer on it they’ll ingest it and get a toxic dose and die. Hopefully they’ll die. They’re more susceptible in that stage. As they get older they’re more resistant to the effects of BT. In the garden situation with squash vine bore, the eggs are attached to the base of the plant so the caterpillar really doesn’t have the opportunity to feed. This would be a little bit tricky, but the BT does work on that if you can get them to it. Some have suggested that you cut a portion of the stem with squash vine bore and inject it with BT. I tried that one year and it was a lot of works, so I’m not going to say don’t do it, but theoretically with young borers and caterpillars, it should work. 12.
