Can text messages be used for evidence in court?
Considering the advances in technology and trends towards paperless transactions, yes txt messages can be used as evidence against the sender since these are duly recorded and if they can be substantially identifiable as to the sender. But the weight of such evidence will of course be based on the rules of evidence. In short, they will have probative value if they can be identified substantially as having been sent by the person against whom they are being used as evidence. If not, while they can be presented in court as evidence, such text messages would not have any evidentiary value whatsoever.
