Can Tesla Motors Capture the Heart of American Car Buyers?
Tesla, one of the better known names in all-electric vehicles, has seen a lot of publicity lately. Since pre-orders began on the Tesla 5 passenger sports sedan, CEO Elon Musk (who bought his way into the company from the money he made founding PayPal) has appeared on Letterman for a 10 minute bash on GM, became the target of a lawsuit filed by the founder of Tesla Motors, and become entangled in a messy, publicized divorce with his novelist wife Justine Musk. Though Mr. Musk has pushed hard to sell the value of these high-performance cars and trumped up the worth of his business, there are still serious reservations about the viability of his product from the key demographics that would champion his brand.
