Can Technology Alone Sustain Us?
The statement in the Bible Man does not live on bread alone (Matthew 4:4) is a frequently repeated phrase in our society. Jesus originally uses this expression to depict mankinds need for something in life beyond physical necessities. Although it is clear that Jesus is referring to spiritual nourishment, the statement rings true for many other requirements of human life. In present times, science and technology can be deemed the bread of American society. Technology is something that our culture depends on to survive. The economy would wither and die without technology as the main basis for means of production. The military would crumble without the scientific intelligence needed to create advanced weaponry. As time passes, it seems that the average persons daily life becomes more and more intertwined with technology.
