As student numbers go down, fewer teachers may be needed. Several teachers have been let go in the past years. However, going from three or four teachers in a grade level to two teachers is easier than going from two to one. If there are 50 children in a grade level, two teachers could have two crowded classes of 25 each. If there are 20 fewer students (30 students) in that grade level the next year, the district will still need two teachers with 15 students in each class, unless grades are combined. Some teachers who retire are replaced if the position needs to be filled. Otherwise, having teachers retire is nicer than having to lay off teachers. So much money is being paid to give teachers fabulous health-care benefits. Why shouldnt teachers be expected to have the same kind of insurance other people have?
