Can taking a birth control pill help stop lactation?

Some of them can, depending on which ones, but it doesn’t work for everyone. I went on the Jolivette (progestin only) pill after I had my baby and was breast feeding because I wanted to go back on Depo, but Depo can stop lactation, so my doctor told me that I could try the jolivette to see if it would stop my lactation before getting the Depo, because I did not want it to stop my lactation. The Jolivette didn’t stop it, so I went ahead and started on the Depo, and that didn’t stop it either. So the short answer is, yes it can, but it may not.
