Can students who have done well in the high school courses required for MAPS (two years of algebra and one year of geometry) expect to be able to pass the test if they still remember the material?
Students who have completed their MAPS requirements in high school and have retained a reasonable level of proficiency should place into the 1 course version of the MQR. In other words, they would have to complete one course for the MQR requirement. Will MQR require any “college level” skills (which are often taught in high school) such as advanced algebra and trigonometry. We propose to start with the AMS guidelines (which are certainly “college level” by state college standards, but below the best high schools). Once a process of testing is in place, there is no reason why the standards could not be raised (as resources permit).
