With the understanding that some districts followed past language from the Course Code Directory to permit entering ninth grade students who completed a high school course in the middle grades with grade of C to retake the course in high school for grade forgiveness, the 2007-08 incoming ninth grade students may retake the courses as so advised. However, this policy will no longer be permitted following the 2007-08 school year. Students in grades 6-8 during the 2007-08 school year and thereafter, completing high school courses, will be held to the same standards as high school students. High school courses taught in middle school should be rigorous and consistent with high school course objectives and expectations. Hence, all secondary students (grades 6-12) taking high school-level courses shall follow the same grade forgiveness policy.
