Can students in the General Mass Communications option of the Media Studies major use it to “duplicate” another major in the College of Communications?
NO! The General Mass Communications option of the Media Studies major is designed as a option for students who wish to design a program of study, with the assistance of a faculty advisor, that meets their individual interests. Students can combine mass communications courses with those from other majors within the University to develop a program that takes an analytical, theoretical, and critical look at the effects of the media on society. Students should NOT include COMM professional courses from controlled majors such as Advertising/Public Relations and Film and Video in developing their academic plan with their faculty advisor!
