Yes, but at a price. Rail companies require the railway right-of-way fenced with a 1.8 metre high chain link fence on both sides of the tracks, 800 metres in both directions from one level crossing. The cost of fencing all the tracks in Strathcona County (in 2005 dollars) is approximately $8 million to $10 million; $100 to $125 for each person; $320 to $400 per home.
