Can Steve Jobs closed system keep it fresh?
Monday is an international holiday for Apple fanboys and girls. It is day one of Apple Inc.’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, where CEO Steve Jobs usually unveils the latest and greatest Apple gizmo. Whether it is the new iPhone 4G, as many suspect it will be, doesn’t really matter. People will want to buy it because it is the next big thing from Apple, with capabilities almost certain to surpass the competition. “Even if the new devices coming out on [Google Inc.’s] Android right now are finally at parity with iPhone 3GS, the whole game is going to change again on June 7,” said Josh Martin, senior analyst in wireless media services for Strategy Analytics in Boston. Mr. Jobs is expected to unveil a new iPhone that will be faster, have more capacity, a better screen and battery life, and a front-facing camera.
