Can St Bernards live in warm climates?
Saint Bernards are found living all over the world. Although not ideal, a saint may do well in warm climates provided he/she is gradually acclimated to the warm temperatures. It is very important to provide fresh, cool water at all times, and a cool, shady area out of the hot sun. In the warmest weather, it is advisable to provide adequate ventilation, or a fan to keep the air moving. Precautions must be taken in extremely hot or humid climates – a misting or sprinkler system on a timer or cool water in a kidding pool in the shade helps keep them comfortable. Check your saint every couple days to make sure they are drying all the way to the skin to prevent hot spots from forming in very humid weather. You should never abruptly change your Saint’s environment, such as taking him from an air-conditioned house where he lives to a hot, humid yard and leave him out while you are at work. Protection from insects is very important in any climate but critical in hot humid climates as well.
