My Standard Poodle is registered with the AKC on limited registration, meaning she must be spayed (which she is) and can’t be bred. She still has a registered name though. Spayed/neutered dogs can’t be shown in Conformation, which is what most people think when they hear “dog” and “show.” That’s the one where they go around the ring and the judge checks them out, where the dogs are perfectly groomed, etc. The point of Conformation is to evaluate breeding stock, which is why they must be intact.
