Can South Carolina beat Auburn in the SEC Title Game today?
There’s no doubt South Carolina can beat Auburn, and I believe this for a variety of reasons. First off, when a team’s secondary is as generous as Auburn’s, anything is possible. The talent deficiency of this particular unit reflects the lack of recruiting prowess Tommy Tuberville showed in his last two seasons at the school. You also have to account for the familiarity factor, which very often benefits the team that lost the first matchup (Auburn beat South Carolina back on September 25). Despite the fact that it’s the NFL, I think the 2007/08 interactions of the Giants and Patriots serve as a good example. If you’ll recall, New England beat New York in the regular season, but the outcome was reversed in Super Bowl XLII.
