Can someone tell me the difference between a non denominational church and I guess a “regular” church?
I’m in a tremendous and spirit-filled non-deminational church. Non-denominational simply means that we are not aligned with any established denomination, i.e., Roman Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, etc. We are Christians and in the body of Christ. However, it’s not true that all have no affliation with any larger body. My church is affliated with the Church of God headquartered in Indiana. We can not just do “whatever” we feel. Our doctrine is bible-based and policies are in line with those jointed established by the Church of God. We are very much like typical Protestant churches in our worship and ministry, however, we don’t have the denominational name or set denominational hierarchy/doctrines. If you are interested in finding a non-denominational church in your area, check out the website for the Church of God and type in your zip code.
In Christianity, the term non-denominational refers to those churches which have not formally aligned themselves with an established denomination. Non-denominational churches establish their own internal means and methods of policy and worship without interference from the policies and worship practices of regional, national, or multinational organizations. Members of non-denominational churches often consider themselves simply “Christians”, and many feel at home when visiting any number of other denominational churches with compatible beliefs.
Denominational churches belong to Christian Denominations like Baptist, Lutheran, Calvinist, Episcopalian, etc. etc. Non-denominational does not belong to any of those. I guess they feel they are more “open-minded” and willing to interpret the bible their own way, instead of going along with some preset program.
