Born in Ohio, 1934. Cultish figure in famous 1969 killing spree. He was a would-be musician and petty criminal. He went to San Francisco, where he founded his “family” (a cult). Manson was fascinated with “The Beatles” pop group and used the title of their song “Helter Skelter” as a name for his expected apocalypse. He convinced his followers to go on a killing spree, during which his followers killed seven people. The most prominent victim was the actress Sharon Tate. The trial was the longest ever at that time, lasting 7 months. He and his followers were given death sentences. But in 1972 the death penalty was outlawed in California, and his sentence was dropped to life in prison.
