Well, it really depends on what you want to spend. There are a few types of cameras you can consider buying. You can get a point and shoot camera (those are cameras that do not have a removable lens) Those tend to be the cheapest. You can either choose film or digital. I would suggest digital. Or you can get a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) Those are what the professionals use. You can use a variety of lens sizes. I have a DSLR with a 14-50mm lens and a 55-120 mm lens. You can use those lenses based on how far you are from the subject matter you would like to photograph. Another great thing about DSLR or SLR’s (SLR’s are the film versions of DSLRs) you can use the manual mode to have more control over your settings.
