I know that I’m in the minority with this answer, but you did ask what you could do to get more power out of a 250 6cyl. Any engine can be modified for power, and a six is no exception. In fact the stock car circuit in the early 50s was dominated by 6 cyl Hudson Hornets, but enough of the history lesson, and on with the answer. The key to engine modification is to get it to breath. You can install headers, and a different carburetor but you won’t see much of a change. My suggestion would be to install a performance camshaft. I would recommend an Iskenderian 262-Supercam. It has an advertised 262° duration and 0.445″ lift. It should work well in a mustang application. At this time, it may also behoove you to remove the head and have the valves ground. If you are looking for maximum power, have the head ported and larger valves installed (you may have to index the pistons if you do this).
