Can someone suggest a good audition monologue?
1. Don’t choose anything from a monologue book written by one author. 2. Classics can be good, but be aware that someone else might have the same monologue and the people watching the auditions will know it well. 3. Only choose a monologue from a play that you have read. 4. They say that people watching audition know how well you can act within the first 30 seconds– so pick something that catches their attention! 5. They say you should do a comedic piece at an audition, but I’ve done both and both can be equally rewarding. For more information read Michael Shurtleff’s book, Audition. (I think I spelled his last name wrong), but check it out– it’s a great resource for auditioning! Good Luck!
There are books over there. Choose something according to your character/temperament first. Or pick up a good passage from a book and make it “live” and believable. Best is to try something which will represent a vast array of emotions to surprise. From happiness to anger, to sadness etc. What I have is more adult oriented and I don’t know how old you are.. Don’t look at the audience; just above them. Watch your body language and rehearse, rehearse, rehearse to death. and when you are finished say “scene”. Means you’re finished. Give a copy to someone in case you forget your line at some stage and say “line” when you need it….. That is if you have never done it before. And BE the character. Take props.
